If you are looking for a unique dining experience while visiting the Westside of Chicago, we suggest you try Treat. Treat Restaurant is “Globally influenced contemporary American cuisine" in the heart of Humboldt Park. Located at the corner of North Avenue (1600N) and Kedzie (3000W),the yellow and blue building can’t be missed!
The restaurant has a unique mixture of American, Indian, and Moroccan cuisines all rolled up into one. On my first visit, I passed up the Roasted Wild Mushrooms, the Moroccan Chicken Skewers, and partook in the Samosa. If you have never had Samosa, it consists of a potato and peas mixture (with Indian spices), wrapped in dough, and fried. Served with two unique sauces, the Samosa definitely started the meal perfectly. The menu offers 3 kinds of salads, each served with a vinaigrette dressing and featuring ingredients like Beets, herb crusted baked goat cheese, and mangos.
Since my visit to Treat was during lunchtime, I ordered from the Sandwich menu. For myself, I ordered the Turkey Panini…and was VERY PLEASED. The blend of Swiss cheese, Apple Tarragon cole slaw, and caraway rye bread was extremely appetizing. My partner ordered the Marinated Flank Steak Sandwich. With the Roasted Red Pepper, red onions and herb aioli, this sandwich which is nestled inside a French roll, was extremely tender and very delicious. Among the other sandwich options are an Open Face Veggie Sandwich (featuring Egg plant and smoked gouda) and a beer-battered cod selection (spiced with Caper mayo and wrapped in a sea salt ciabatta roll).
The entrée portion of the menu ranges in prices from 9.95 to 13.95. The menu has enticing items like the Indian inspired Dahl Makhani. This is buttered lentils, basmati rice, curried vegetables, and Indian spices. If you are in a seafood mood, try the Pan-seared Salmon with a tomato salad, and topped with Cucumber mint yogurt. If these don’t captivate your senses, there are chicken, steak, and linguini dishes available.
Side dishes are added to sandwich and entrée selections, and include Treat’s signature Apple Tarragon cole slaw, curried veggies, basmati rice, or frites. If you can’t find your French dictionary, frites are the French Fries we know and love!
The atmosphere is very quaint and has a very relaxing vibe. The dining area is very cozy, and the décor will definitely add to the dining experience. Treat is a BYOB establishment, and serves lunch and dinner during the week and offers a brunch on the weekends. They also have weekly specials and Live entertainment.
